Message from the Secretary General

Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors and Friends of SLMUN,

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to the 8th Session of Sri Lanka Model United Nations 2015, to be held in Colombo from the 14th-16th of August 2015.

The need to reinvigorate the youth in making a stand for humanity, justice, equality, against all forms of violence, and an assortment of socioeconomic challenges is being felt more than ever before. It is for this vision that we rally youngsters from all across Sri Lanka and the World. SLMUN is an environment filled with comradeship, endurance and an undisputed arena of debate and diplomacy, where young leaders use their cut throat arguments to formulate policy. SLMUN is a forum for negotiation and conciliation, where the leaders of tomorrow are made to see from the lens of diplomacy.

SLMUN 2015 makes a challenge to all our youngsters. We "Dare You to Move”; to take a stand against the challenges of our century. We Dare you to voice out your opinion when the majority remains voiceless. We Dare you to exploit your brilliant minds in the art of conflict resolution. We Dare you to become the change that the World is mourning and yearning to see.
Participants will investigate the development agenda post-2015, the need for a global coalition against terrorism and the pressing environmental challenges along with several interesting and motivating high profile conference speakers lined up.

I am certain the 2015 conference will provide a transformative and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
On behalf of the 2015 Organizing Committee, I WELCOME YOU TO SLMUN 2015!

Yours Sincerely,
K.D.D.B. Vimanga
Secretary General

About Us

Sri Lanka Model United Nations (SLMUN) is the national MUN conference and Asia's largest student run conference. The Inaugural SLMUN held at the BMICH, in 2008, involving over 1000 students from around Sri Lanka and abroad, put MUN in a new paradigm in Sri Lanka. SLMUN is currently in preparation for its 8th session following the glamorous path of seven consecutive success stories. Our aim is to take MUN to all corners of Sri Lanka with nothing standing in the way of each and every school student getting the opportunity to experience the uniqueness of it, while making Sri Lanka an international centre for MUNers. Hundreds of students have already been put into the fold of diplomacy and negotiations, allowing them to become true leaders, through SLMUN.

The 8th Session

At the 8th Session we want to revolutionize the thought process and attitudes of students to distance themselves from the conventional Asian risk averse behavior and take real action towards making real change in the future world that will belong to them, while internalizing international issues that no longer isolate anyone. We intend on directing the risk taking actions of change towards creating the policies of the future – policies that they as the future global citizens would enshrine within the public policy domain. It is not mere reform that SLMUN 2015 wants to advocate but complete paradigm shifts in public policy with particular attention on education and nothing is more revolutionary than the education system envisioned by the very victims of the woes of the existing one. Education is the primary answer to all the world's problems from extremist terrorism to overpopulation.
